INTERNAL ARTS SUMMER CAMP - AUGUST 5-9, 2021

paul

General Information

Each session will begin with foundational exercises, including elements of balance, strengthening, flexibility, movement concepts, and theory followed by a simple repeatable form to integrate the principles of each art. Classes will be taught at a beginner level, so no experience is necessary. Options for practicing while sitting will also be given for those who need to sit. Each session will also have a break in the middle, and I will endeavour to demonstrate the styles, or perhaps show videos that are relevant to the style.

Over my 28 years of practice, I’ve had the precious opportunity to learn from many great teachers and practitioners of these arts. One of the most effective approaches that I’ve found beneficial over the years is the workshop format where one can train more intensively than usual in a concentrated period which allows the body to open and reveal deeper understandings.

This workshop is my best effort to share some of my experience and try to pass on a few of the physical and mental benefits of these practices. My hope is that it will leave participants with a greater appreciation for the wisdom and profundity of these practices, and perhaps even open new doors for future pursuits. I am not a master of any art, as they are all infinitely deep in their own rights and as far as I can tell, a lifetime could easily be dedicated to any one of them without reaching the bottom of the well. As an Occupational Therapist, my interests are primarily in exploring internal movement dynamics and mind/body integration, which has lead me to explore diversity in the way that I have.

If you have the time and inclination, I hope that you will consider joining us, no matter where you are on your journey.

All the best to you in whatever you practice.
